Bordentown Little League Coaches and Managers,
Coaching and Managing Little League is a choice you’ve made to serve the children and families in our community, and for that we want to say THANK YOU! We realize it’s not easy to volunteer your time, even if you have a child in the program, or on your team. The challenges of being a coach/manager, however, are rewarded by the sharing of fun experiences, and forging positive memories that will last a lifetime. Don’t minimize, or take for granted, the impact that you have on your players throughout the season. Your willingness to see everyone equally and treat them with respect goes well beyond their ability to hit, run, or throw. It’s also important to realize that your influence goes beyond the regular season.
This league is run by a group of volunteers, such as yourself. We are here to help you in any way possible. Below is a list of what we feel is needed to make this league and your team a success this season. Please look it over and bring any questions or concerns that you have to your Division Player Agent or myself. Thank you.
Coaches Responsibility List:
- Each coach is required by Little League to pass a criminal background check that we run free of charge to you. This process will take place during the month of March.
- Find a Team Parent, this is very important. The extra assistance will take a lot off the shoulders of a manager and coach so you can concentrate on teaching the kids.
- Make practices fun! A good organized practice should be 60 minutes at the younger levels and 90 minutes for Minors and above. Get your coaches and parents involved. Come in to each practice with a game plan. Incorporate breaking the kids up in groups with each group doing different instructional drills. Practices should first incorporate discussing the days plan with the team and some light stretching.
- Gathering volunteers to help at the concession stand. We appreciate all the help that we can get, and for more volunteer opportunities please encourage your team parents to check out the volunteer opportunities tabs to get in touch with our two concession directors.
- At the conclusion of your games and practices everything needs to be cleaned up and all equipment put away. This is a lot of responsibility, but here is the trick, get your parents involved! While you are talking to your players after each practice and game, have your Team Parent encourage other parents to help out with these things. Discuss this at your team meeting and make it happen. It will take a huge burden off your shoulders.
- Opening Day is Saturday, March 29th starting at 9am! We look forward to seeing you and your team there. You will be sent the schedule ahead of time with where your team will be expected to be for the parade and our annual Hit-A-Thon! Pictures will be taken on Friday, March 28th. A picture schedule will be sent out as the date gets closer. Make sure to share this information with your team and if there are any questions, please let us know.
